WELCOME TO SHONTO PREPARATORY SCHOOL!

It is with great pleasure that I announce to the community that Shonto Preparatory School (K-8) made AYP for the 2008-2009 School Year. The staff and students are to be congratulated for the hard work and dedication that resulted in achieving this distinction.

We offer a very sound instructional program to our students. We embraced the SAILS Continuous Improvement Model in 2006 that has guided our efforts to reach AYP. The Model is as follows:

S
Standards Based Curriculum and Instruction: Standards ( Reading, Math, Writing, Science, Social Studies) are unwrapped, mapped and placed in 4Quarter Format
A
Assessments: Data-Informed Decision-Making linked to Standards
I
Instruction and Interventions: Research Based Programs and Instructional Delivery in (Reading, Math, Writing); RTI; Three Tiered Interventions; Differentiated Instruction
L
Leadership: Collaborative Teams using the Professional Learning Communities' Model; Grade Level Teams; Student Council Leadership
S
School-wide Commitment: Fidelity to the Program Design and Implementation

To support teachers in ongoing improvements in their craft, we offer Expert Consultants, Reading Coaches and Math Coaches. We have also adopted the WestEd Teach For Success/ Coach For Success Observation/Feedback Model designed to improve and increase teacher engagement and student engagement. The “I Care” Program  has been implemented to provide parents with a proven method of involvement in the students' academic activities. This program focuses on Character Building, Parent Involvement and Parent Training. It is the only program that provides a Data-Management component designed to measure parent interactions with their children. The program offers teacher lesson plans, a CD Based Curricula, Incentives, recommended book packs and posters that support a well designed curriculum.
